Today I honor my firecracker 🧨 mother!
Many people ask me why I am so passionate about supporting women. My mother is the main reason and there are three more that lead the pack. Let’s discuss.
I was raised by a single working mother. My mother Lynne worked 3 jobs (sometimes more) to provide a good life for my sister and me. After her divorce, she obtained a Ph.D. while raising 2 children. She was a school teacher, a tutor, and a therapist. She had moved to an upper-middle-class town because it had an excellent school system, was safe, and was “family-friendly” offering a strong sense of community. She raised us there by having the 3 jobs because a teacher’s salary doesn’t go very far! I could count the number of single-parent households in my town on one hand, I was a definite outsider in that sense. However, the role model my mother provided me had a significant impact and planted the seed for my passion and purpose to excel in my career and to lift up women.
As this seed grew, it was cultivated and fed by my experience as an MBA student at a highly competitive business school based in Europe. After a year of being stepped on by men as one of 17% women and experiencing micro-aggressions and gender bias every single day, by graduation a feminist fighter was born.
As I climbed the corporate ladder and had my children, I faced the incredible roadblocks of working in America while raising a family. Luckily, I had my husband and the financial resources to get some support, but it soon became too expensive and too difficult for me to stay on the corporate/tech industry intense track to the C-Suite. I stopped the constant struggle and I stepped off. This experience ignited a fire in me to dedicate my free time to helping women in business. This brings me to perhaps my favorite reason for my passion …
My 2 sons. I am so proud of my boys, they are the best of me! I encourage them to support women, respect women and lift up all people as often as they can.
