How can you stay in a job that is sucking you dry?
Many years ago, I asked myself this question on a daily basis. Actually, there are many answers that each of us has in us and that we strive to highlight in our work at Monumental Me. Sharing our stories helps others. And now I have put out a new collection of expert advice from mental health, nursing, and communications professionals, on this very topic, sharing real stories from these seasoned experts. Our new podcast series helps managers retain their people and also helps individuals find tools to help themselves.
Since you’re here, you’ve likely heard my story before. When I quit my dream job at Google, I was completely burnt out. Two toddlers at home, a husband who worked or traveled constantly for work, long hours and travel for my work, zero family members within 634 miles to help with urgent child care if needed, and a difficult boss. It was a tricky situation and one that still feeds my tank on my quest for well-being at work. A really difficult time, but also an unexpected gift that keeps on giving.
I continue to speak to experts to help others avoid quitting if at all avoidable. More importantly, I want people to thrive in work and reap all the rewards that come with staying at your job.
The pandemic created a paradigm shift for working mothers. And fathers. No one should have to face the hard choice of quitting or continuing to sacrifice their family and well-being. The new normal of hybrid and remote work and increased flexibility for white-collar workers is huge. But what about people who cannot reap the benefits of this shift to hybrid work? For healthcare workers for example. That really piques my interest! So, I dug into the topic of retention for healthcare and human services workers. We hear real stories on tools including the essentials of:
how to build relationships at work
how to self-advocate
how to embrace & leverage diversity
how to win friends & influence co-workers
how to advance by focusing on your strengths
how reading, listening and sharing are the keys to success
And ultimately, how to know when it’s really time to move on or help your people to do so.
Check it out HERE, and spread the word to those you know who could benefit from advice from these pros I had the pleasure to speak to and capture on the podcast.
