š”I have an anger problem
I have an anger problem. I admit it. I get frustrated easily, especially when my inner perfectionist kicks up a fuss and gets in the way of my general happiness and effectiveness. But this is not a serious problem. Itās usually just an irritation problem. Sometimes āI say it like I feel itā in the moment. That Saboteur is something I have been working on at home and at work for years so I can help myself be better - a better mother, a better manager, a better professional, a better partnerā¦. More on this in future letters. TODAY, I have full-blown pissed-off, rage, fury, resentment, exasperation, WTF is going on in this country problem that goes well beyond frustration.
I wonāt go much deeper into the politics here, or turn our letter into a political tool BUT just one week ago we posted a positive and ambitious Thrive letter to you lauding the idea that while we donāt think we can have it all, we believe we can have what we NEED to feel satisfied in life and we shared a key tool with you, The Wheel of Life. And then, just a couple of days later we heard the news we knew was coming but shocked us all anyway as it ripped away a key element of womenās rights and stripped away major progress in the fight for gender equity AND racial justice in the US - a womanās right to control her own body. The news of the Supreme Court overturning Roe vs Wade hit us like a ton of bricks. It made me feel like women do NOT have choices, and that all of our encouragement of taking control of oneās life and work will be futile for many women (and fathers, but thatās another story). And while we can not control so many things in this world, we should all be able to control one thing most precious and impactful to our survival, our own bodies.
And what pissed me off anew today?
According to an NPR/PBS Newshour/Marist Poll 38% of women polled with the question āDo you support the Supreme Courtās decision to overturn Roe vs Wadeā said YES.
So yes, I am angry. Meanwhile, how can I control this anger to help me in my personal mission to support all women and people in need with the tools and audience to which we have access? This may sound a little cheesy, but it is all about shifting out of a negative thought spiral and asking myself the right questions so I can actually be effective. Stewing in my anger isnāt going to help change things. I need to re-think my thought patterns and prepare myself to continue to work towards gender equity and the social justice we need today.
šš»And here is a favorite short 2 minute video we did to help YOU shift out of negative thought patterns that do not serve you to achieve what you need:
Having it all is like enjoying your own favorite cocktail of demands and accomplishments. Essential ingredients include cultivating and sustaining a meaningful career, living your purpose, having a family, maintaining quality relationships, living in good health *and* really thriving while doing so in an ever-changing and anxiety-inducing world! ~ Liana, The Thrive Letter, June 21, 20022.
āØLetās hold onto this positivity and continue to use the evidence-based tools we can access and can control, to control our negative thoughts and help others thrive as well as ourselves.
Share this letter with 3 friends TODAY to spread the good word. Monumental Me is making personal and professional development tools accessible to all! Itās so easyā¦
